Week of 4/22: Solutions, States of Matter, and Heating Curves

Monday 4/22 - We will review Fission and Fusion, recognizing the difference between the two and considering why nuclear chain-reactions occur. We then will review why some elements are radioactive and the three types of radiation. Finally, we will do some basic half-life calculations and do a bit of practice with that concept.

Tuesday 4/23 - We will review the relationship between pressure, temperature, and volume. Then, we will relate those three concepts to the states of matter that occur in the universe. We will discuss how Saturn can have a core made up of liquid hydrogen when hydrogen is a gas on earth and the nature of the compressed air cans.

Wednesday 4/24 - Solutions. We will first review what a solution is and the difference between ionic and covalent compounds when they dissolve in water. We will complete a review worksheet on solutions and then spend any remaining time answering any questions that students have regarding the Milestone EOCT and the final project.

Thursday 4/25 - Acids/Bases and Heating Curves. We will review the nature of acids and bases on the molecular level, then students will list some known acidic and basic substances. We will then compare the properties of these items. The students will complete a worksheet covering the properties of acids and bases, then the class will go over state changes and look at a few sample heating curves.

Friday 4/26 - Review for quiz and start working on Milestones EOC practice questions.
